The chickpea probably originates from the region of today's Turkey, where it has been cultivated since the Neolithic Period. In ancient Rome, it was very popular and it already came to Germany back then.
Today, it is grown in many warm countries. It forms the basis for falafel and hummus. Our variety has bright seeds, comes from Italy, and is suitable for the Central European climate. For a successful harvest, however, very hot and rather dry summer is necessary.
