Description

Although potatoes are usually propagated vegetatively by means of seed potatoes, a cultivation from seed is possible. Growing potatoes from seed can lead to new varieties, and the plants raised are often more robust and healthier.

We offer a potato seed mix of old varieties with yellow, red and purple tubers.

Solanum tuberosum seed, content: about 10 potato seeds
Sowing and cultivation:

Sowing works as with tomatoes. Indoor preculture in seed compost from March on. These seeds germinate at 20 °C in about 10 days. In May aclimate the ca. 15 cm large plants and plant them out into the greenhouse or field. In the first year, small tubers will form which should be dug up and overwintered frost-free (the tubers will survive mild winters in the soil).

In the next year you can plant the seed potatoes and large tubers will form. You can harvest your own seeds from the tomato-like (toxic) fruits growing above ground.
