Description

The family of thorn apple species is a small grouping of approximately 20 varieties but surprisingly there are plenty of names for the plants botanically referred to as datura, such as: thorn apple, jimson weed, devil's trumpets, toloache, locoweed,
hell's bells, prickly burr and moonflowers, amongst many more. Datura plants belong to the family of nightshade plants or solanaceae).
Most thorn-apple plants dazzle with their interesting appearance, beautiful funnel-shaped flowers contrasted by their prickly fruits eponymous to the species.
All datura plants and thorn-apple seeds are highly toxic and all contain tropane alkaloids atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine. Consequently, careful and responsible consideration needs to be taken when choosing the right growing location, in order not to endanger humans (in particular children), horses, dogs or other small animals.
This seed kit contains 3 beautiful flowering thorn-apple varieties:
  • Toloache (Datura inoxia)
Tolache is a Central American datura variety sometimes nicknamed 'sacred datura', probably because it initially was used for shamanistic rituals by indigenous tribes.
  • Devil's trumpet, metel (Datura metel)
Metel is a beautiful Indian datura variety, with large oval-shaped leaves, which is also known as 'devil's trumpet'.
  • Jimson weed (Datura stramonium)
Jimson weed is a Central European annual datura variety, with large, lobed leaves and the typical trumpet shaped white flowers. It is often also referred to as 'common thorn apple'.
The seeds of each variety are packaged in a separate sachet.
