Description

This angel's trumpet is a beautiful tropical nightshade with large, white, scented trumpet-shaped blossoms. The perfect container plant for balcony and terrace. Brugmansia suaveolens was used as an important ethnobotanic plant in the Amazon area for
ritual preparations, among other things for the potion Tonga, which is said to have had a shamanic effect.

This species is open-pollinated, unlike most of the angel's trumpets cultivated as ornamental plants. These are usually hybrids whose seeds are often not very suitable for further crossings or breeding and which must be pollinated manually.
Caution: The whole plant is very poisonous and is particularly dangerous for children!

Growing instructions

The seeds of the angel's trumpet can be soaked in warm water for a few hours (max. 24 hours). Then press in seed compost and keep warm at all times. Ideal location: full sun. Parts of the plant lignify after some time and should possibly be cut when winter comes.

Brugmansias are almost exclusively grown as pot plants in colder climates. They need a rich, well-drained soil and a lot of root space. In the summer they frequently need additional fertilizer. During winter they can stay in a cellar or similar place, as they require little light while dormant.
