Description

Voacanga africana is an African medicinal plant that grows into a tree of up to 6 meters height which bears up to 30cm long leaves. Its flowers are yellow or white and form berries whose seeds are used in West Africa for various purposes - together
with the processed bark of the voacanga tree, they serve as a stimulant and aphrodisiac as well as a ceremonial intoxicant.

The most important active ingredient of this plant is the iboga alkaloid voacangine which also has an anti-inflammatory effect.

Contents: approx 200 Voacanga seeds
Sowing and cultivation

Voacanga africana is a tropical plant. In most climates it grows in protected areas like balcony, patio or greenhouse, but it is not winter hardy. Also good as a houseplant. The seeds germinate better after acid treatment. For this they are soaked for about 20 minutes in vinegar (5% acidity). Rinse and sow about 1cm deep in pots and keep warm (coco soil is ideal). Later on, voacanga loves nutrient-rich, humus soil.
