Description

Harvest your own peanuts from a pot! Peanuts do have a delicious flavour and can be eaten either raw or roasted or cooked in hot dishes, as a whole or ground up and used as peanut butter in sandwiches. The seed contains proteins and oil and is a
good source of minerals and vitamins, especially from the B complex, so it's perfect for vegans!

Also, young peanut leaves and tips are tasty as a cooked green vegetable. Peanuts have been used in folk medicine as an aphrodisiac and for its anti-inflammatory qualities as well, but some people are allergic to them. If you want to eat some freshly harvested peanut seeds, they need to be dried in the oven for 20 minutes at 150 °C first.

Besides all the practical uses, the plant looks very nice on your windowsill with its geometrically shaped leaves and flowers.

10 peanut seeds

Growing instructions

Pre-soak the seeds for 12 hours in warm water and sow the seed in mid spring in a warm greenhouse, after two weeks they will germinate. Prick out the small peanut plants in separeted pots with rich soil when 4 cm high. For outdoor growing plant them after the last expected frost and give them some protection against wind and cold until they`re big enough.
The plant needs light humus and rich well-drained soil in a warm sheltered sunny position and prefers dry hot conditions when the peanut seeds are ripening.
