The Giant Redwood is also called Giant Sequoia or Wellingtonia and is native to California. Under good conditions, it can reach up to 95 metres in height, which it, however, doesn't reach in Germany. The highest redwood in Germany has a height of approx. 50 metres. Among the oldest redwoods in the world counts the tree called "President" in the Sierra Nevada in California with an age of approx. 3200 years. Redwoods are very well adjusted to forest fires (Pyrophyte), which they often experience several times in their long lives, and often survive these unscathed in adult age due to their thick bark. They are hardy down to -20°C.
