Description

Being the continent farthest away from Europe, Australia will always be surrounded with an air of the exotic due to our imagination. For example, it is not uncommon that people will immediately picture its unusual fauna and flora, kangaroos and even
the diverse range of poisonous animals native there at once, when hearing the name 'Australia' mentioned.
And it is true that due to its secluded location from other continents, Australia's vegetation and wildlife has developed a wide, diverse range of species over centauries, unlike anywhere else in the world. We know roughly of about 20.000 varieties of seed producing plants alone, for example, of which eucalyptus trees, acacia trees and Australian tea trees are probably the species most commonly known in Europe.

For this seed kit we therefore hand selected 3 plant varieties, which are common in Australia and that people here usually identify as being typical Australian plants:
  • Narrow-leaved tea tree/ narrow-leaved paperbark/ narrow-leaved ti-tree/ snow-in-summer (Melaleuca alternifolia)
As a plant we know of tea tree because of its powerful essential oil, which is highly antiseptic, antibacterial and fungicidal and therefore used world wide for alternative medical treatments.
  • Northern kurrajong/ kurrajong bottle tree (Brachychiton diversifolius)
Kurrajong bottle tree is a lesser-known small tree variety, which produces caffeine-containing seeds. Traditionally these have been roasted by the indigenous Australian aborigines, who prepare a hot beverage similar to coffee with them.
  • Kiwi (Actinidia chinensis)
Originally, 'kiwis' descended from China and therefore initially have been named Chinese actinidia. However, we commonly associate kiwis with being the national fruit of New Zealand, where these climbing plants are widely cultivated. These refreshing, edible fruits have also been long known and popular in Europe.
The seeds of each variety are packaged in a separate sachet.
