It can be particularly successful to grow wild vegetables in the garden, because these plants often develop unexpectedly well under culture conditions.
This seed kit contains 5 wild vegetable plants and wild herbs:
- Green purslane (Portulaca oleracea)
Purslane is a local plant and tastes delicious in salads, hence it has already been popular since the middle ages. The succulent, crunchy leaves have a fresh and tangy flavour and light acidity. - Evening primrose (Oenothera biennis)
The tubers of the evening-primrose contain starch, taste very aromatic and are very healthy. - Scurvy grass (Cochlearia officinalis)
Scurvy grass is rich in vitamin c and its spoon-shaped leaves have a cress like sharpness and are a delicious addition to any salad. - Ramsons, Bear Garlic, Wild Garlic (Allium ursinum)
Wild garlic's natural habitat is semi-shaded forests but it also grows well in domestic gardens. Its leaves and tubers are said to have health promoting properties and it has a lovely garlicky flavour. - Wild carrot, Bird's nest, Bishop's lace, Queen Anne's lace (Daucus carota ssp. carota)
This wild form of our common carrot develops rather skinny roots, which tend to lignify but have a wonderful intense aroma and delicate texture when harvested early.
