This plant composition is something for real connoisseurs. Special regional vegetable and herb rarities from all over Europe, which many will probably not know. Great, delicious plants for everyone who loves something special and is keen to
experiment.

The following 13 special vegetables and herbs are included in the set:
  • Yellow beetroot 'Golden'(Beta vulgaris)
Yellow beetroot 'Golden' is a distinctively fruity and sweet tasting yellow beetroot with round roots.
  • Rampion(Campanula rapunculus)
An old European cultivated plant, which was still frequently cultivated as a vegetable in the 17th century. The leaf rosette is used likecorn salad and the small roots are eaten as tasty vegetables.
  • Root chervil/ parsnip chervil/ bulbous chervil/ tuberous-rooted chervil/ turnip-rooted chervil (Chaerophyllum bulbosum)
Chervil root is one true family member of the slow food concept, as it takes roughly 10 month from sowing it from seeds to serving it at your dinner table. However, connoisseurs agree it is worth all the time and effort. These root vegetables have an exquisitely fine flavour of potatoes and chestnuts with a discrete sharp note reminiscent of celeriac and parsnips.
  • Sea kale/ crambe (Crambe maritima)
Sea kale is a 'genuine' local wild cabbage, which has a mild flavour, not dissimilar to broccoli. The leaves can be harvested continuously.
  • Achoccha (Cyclanthera pedata)
Unpretentious old vegetable plant. The small fruits of the climbing plant are usually eaten raw in salads.
  • Cardoon (Cynara cardunculus)
Cardoon is a vegetable plant of the thistles family and a close relative of the artichoke. The fleshy leaf stems are eaten.
  • Purple carrot 'Zanahoria morada' (Daucus carota)
A purple heirloom carrot cultivar deriving from the true wild carrot species, which has a pronounced aromatic carrot flavour.
  • Bronze fennel 'Purpureum' (Foeniculum vulgare )
This type of fennel has leaves with a decorative brownish violet colour.
  • Celtuce (Lactuca sativa var. angustana)
Old Chinese cultivated plant. The leaves are eaten as a salad. The fleshy sprout in the middle is peeled and used raw as well as steamed like asparagus.
  • Oyster-leaf (Mertensia maritima)
This beautiful wild plant grows wild on Scottish coasts. The fleshy leaves are oyster-like in taste.
  • Ice plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum)
The ice plant comes from South Africa and loves dry and sunny places. The slightly salty leaves appear to be covered with ice crystals and are used for decorative salads.?
  • Chawe (Pachycereus pecten-aboriginum)
Big cactus from Central America. In the past Chawe was a widely used plant. It supplied edible fruits and was also ceremonially used in the healing arts of the Tarahumara in Central America.
  • Opposite-leaved saltwort/ opposite-leaved Russian thistle/ barilla plant 'Barba di Frate' (Salsola soda)
Opposite-leaved saltwort is a salt-tolerant plant typically found in coastal regions. It is regarded as a delicacy in Italian cooking.
The seeds of each variety are packaged in a separate sachet.
