There's a German herb sauce called "Grüne Soße" which is rather famous for consisting of 8 different fresh herbs which can also be used for salads. Included in this seed kit are 8 herbs needed for the famous green sauce:
  • Borage (Borago officinalis)
    Fresh chopped borage leaves lend a beautiful flavour to any cucumber salad, homemade dip or crème cheese spread and they also form one of the essential ingredients needed for preparing 'Frankfurter Grüne Sauce', the famous green sauce from Frankfurt. Its small, star-shaped blue flowers are also delicious added to salads, puddings and wild herb soups.
  • Flat leaf chervil (Anthriscus cerefolium)
    The leafs of this flat-leafed chervil variety slightly taste of peppery notes and aniseed which compliments fish, salads and fresh dips very well. Also good to know is that chervil is one of the herbs avoided by slugs and it is therefore often planted next to species which tend to attract these pests.
  • Curly leaf parsley (Petroselinum crispum)
    This is a robust and very aromatic parsley variety with curly leaves.
  • Salad burnet (Sanguisorba minor)
    The cucumber-like taste of leaves and flowers is an important component of the Frankfurt Green Sauce. Also for seasoning salads, marinades as well as fish and poultry dishes.
  • Garden sorrel (Rumex acetosa)
    Very uncomplicated and unpretentious, perennial plant. The leaves can be prepared fresh as a salad or also briefly blanched or steamed as a vegetable. Also popular as pesto or soup.
  • Chives (Allium schoenoprasum)
    There is nothing more enjoyable than the simple pleasure of freshly chopped chives crowning a slice of bread and butter!
  • Dill (Anethum graveolens)
    Dill is an old agricultural crop, which has been used in alternative medicine and is also a lovely kitchen herb. In particular its newly grown tips make a wonderful seasoning for fish, sauces and salad dressings.
  • Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis)
    Fresh lemon aroma all summer long. The characteristic tangy fresh scent and taste is not forgotten. Old medicinal plant, kitchen herb and bee pasture.
