magic garden seeds

The traditional principle of what we commonly refer to as a 'cottage garden', stems back from the early 20th centaury and still inspires gardening enthusiasts today. Cottage gardens are well planned out kitchen gardens, which are often a hybrid
between an ornamental flower garden and a domestic kitchen garden, with fruit-, herb-, and vegetable patches and maybe even berry-, and nut producing hedges, all together creating a colourful environment. Due to their varied range of plants, we often perceive these gardens as slightly more natural and find their untamed vibrancy rather refreshing. However, they are usually perfectly balanced and the added formal elements such as enclosing hedges and walls and the use of geometric shapes are forming an eye-pleasing pattern of flowerbeds and pathways. Another recognizable element is the use of short box hedges as enclosure surrounding the individual patches. Cottage gardens are heavenly leisure time spaces and the crossings of their pathways are often designed as small gathering and sitting area, often arranged around a decorative plant or tree, or a tranquil fountain in their middle.
This seed kit contains 6 plant varieties for the traditional cottage garden:
  • Peppermint (mentha piperta)
Peppermint is an old, traditional herb-, tea-, and medicinal plant with refreshing aroma.
  • Lovage (levisticum officinale)
Lovage grows into an erect shrub of impressive size and has a wonderfully aromatic and strong flavour. It is an old medicinal-, and herbal plant, which is a 'must-have' for any kitchen garden.
  • Rhubarb chard 'volcano' (beta vulgaris var. cicla)
Rhubarb chard is a beautiful old cultivar with glowing red stalks and green leaves. It tastes delicious and adds decorum to the garden.
  • Parsnip 'half-length' (Pastinaca sativa)
Back in the days, the Romans introduced parsnips to all corners of Europe. This popular root vegetable is very easy to grow and its long, white roots develop a wonderful mild, yet aromatic flavour.
  • Lavender (lavandula angustifolia)
Lavender is a low shrub that is very common in the rocky coastal regions of the Mediterranean and is known for its uniquely scented purple flowers. It is very popular both with people and bees.
  • Love-in-a-mist (nigella damascena)
Love-in-a-mist is a delightful delicate flowering plant with blue and white flowers, which are a welcome addition to any flowerbed. Its seeds have an intense scent reminiscent of woodruff and therefore taste really nice in puddings and desserts.
The seeds of each variety are packaged in a separate sachet.
