Many regions have their own recipes for bitter herbal liqueurs which are supposed to promote digestion. The bitter taste is produced by the herbs added to the spirit. They're also simply called bitters.


This seed set contains 6 herbal varieties suitable for preparing herb bitters:
  • Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium)
    Wormwood is an ancient medicinal plant that has been used at least since ancient times. In addition to the healing effect on the digestive organs, wormwood is also a component of absinthe.
  • Angelica archangelica
    Imposing, robust, aromatic wild perennial from Scandinavia. An old medicinal plant whose fleshy roots strengthen the nerves, relieve cramps and promote digestion.
  • Real caraway (Carum carvi)
    Absolute all-round talent as a spice, tea and medicinal plant. Suitable are leaves, seeds and roots.
  • Green herb fennel 'Dulce' (Foeniculum vulgare)
    Powerful, tall perennial with filigree flowers. The sweet aromatic seeds are suitable for seasoning dishes and for preparing fennel tea.
  • Tibetan gentian (Gentiana tibetica)
    Small, white-flowering, robust gentian from the Himalayas. An old medicinal plant.
  • Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) An
    ancient popular medicinal plant known mainly for its calming effect as tea or herbal extract. Cats are magically attracted to the smell of the roots.
