Thai cuisine is regarded as a crossover mix of Chinese, Japanese and Indian cuisine with European influences. So-called one-plate or one-pot dishes are typical. They are based on rice or noodles with a curry of vegetables, meat and fish.

Of course, the herbs and spices, which give the Thai curry its individual taste, are what makes the dishes special. As a basic ingredient, a spice paste is freshly prepared from fresh chillies, herbs, roots, garlic and mostly fish sauce. A spoonful of this homogeneous mass, crushed in a mortar, is first roasted in oil in a wok before all other ingredients are added.

This seed kit contains 4 typical Thai kitchen herb & spice varieties:
  • Lemongrass / citronella (Cymbopogon flexuosus)
The distinct and unique lemon flavour of lemon grass is truly delightful and its stalks can be used for seasoning food, for tea infusions and to extract the famous lemongrass essential oil.
  • Cilantro, leaf coriander (Coriandrum sativum)
The 'parsley' of Mexican and Asian cuisine: Use the freshly chopped leaves only shortly before serving.
  • Thai basil (Ocimum basilicum)
A type of basil that smells of aniseed and tastes somewhat tangier and spicier than other basil varieties. Very typical aroma in Thai noodle soups.
  • Thai chili 'Prik Kee Noo' (Capsicum frutescens)
The so-called 'bird's eye chili' is a staple in Thai cuisine. The small, very hot chilli peppers are used to season the curry pastes.
