Many root vegetables that were regularly on the menu in medieval times have been almost forgotten today. Mostly these are wild vegetables that were dropped by commercial growers - perhaps for being less profitable, or less suited to mechanical
cultivation.
With this seed kit we're hoping to rescue them from oblivion, bringing diversity back to our kitchens, gardens and natural environment. The varieties contained in this kit are all very delicious and rich in vitamins.

Grow your own magic with these vegetable varieties:
  • Purple Salsify (Tragopogon porrifolius) A delicious root vegetable, Purple Salsify is closely related to Black Salsify, although the roots have a light-coloured skin that can be left on and eaten.
  • Arrowheads (Sagittaria sagittifolia) A central European wild plant for damp terrain. The tubers are around 3 cm long and can be prepared as a vegetable or dried and milled into flour to thicken sauces or for sweet dishes.
  • Corky Fruit Water Dropwort (Oenanthe pimpinelloides) Wild plant with small edible root bulbs that are regarded as a delicacy.
  • Edible Quamash / Small Camas (Camassia quamash) For some North American indigenous tribes the relatively large tubers of this lily were an important staple food. The roots taste best when slow-fried on a low heat or baked.
  • Edible Burdock (Arctium lappa var. Sativa) A very old root vegetable - burdock in its cultivated form, with roots that are tender and not woody.
  • Root Chervil (Chaerophyllum bulbosum) Root Chervil is the ultimate slow food: the roots have a very delicate flavour, tasting of potatoes and chestnuts, with the subtle, pungent taste of celery and parsnips.
One seed packet per plant variety.

The seed packets along with detailed growing instructions (in German and English) are packed in a beautiful gift box - a wonderful, sustainable gardening gift any plant lover will be delighted to receive.
