Description

The field larkspur (syn. Delphinium consolida) is a low-growing annual plant, which is particularly striking because of its beautiful deep blue flowers. Since it is regarded as a poisonous field weed, it has almost been eradicated by pesticide use
and is now listed among endangerend plant species in Germany and Switzerland.

It contains toxic alkaloids and should therefore not be planted in gardens where children or animals are present. The seeds have the highest alkaloid content. From these a very effective remedy against lice and other skin parasites can be obtained. This tincture can also be used as an insecticide. Only the flowers are used among herbalists, but they are low in active ingredients and often added to herbal teas for purely ornamental purposes, since they keep their blue color after drying.

The blue petals can be used for dyeing and for obtaining a good quality blue drawing ink.

Approx. 800 field larkspur seeds

Growing instructions

Unassuming annual summer flower. Direct sowing in autumn or spring. The seeds require cold and light to germinate, therefore do not completely cover them with soil. The ideal location for the plant is a sunny, nutrient-rich soil with a relatively high lime content.
