Description

Oil radish is an excellent annual green manure. Its taproots loosen and aerate the soil. Since it consumes a lot of nitrogen, oil radish has a balancing effect on over-fertilized soils. Although it belongs to the cruciferous plants and thus should
be grown only once every four years, oil radish not spread the dreaded clubroot disease and even fights nematodes.
Since this is an annual, frost-sensitive plant, which can be sown from February to September, the fodder radish is very well suited as a catch crop in a vegetable patch that has already been harvested. At the beginning of frost the plant freezes and its remains can be left as a protective layer of mulch on the vegetable patch, which can then simply be hoed in or composted in spring.
