The Large-flowered bellwort is a perennial wildflower from North America. It forms quickly ground-covering carpets in the slight shade so that you can often find large stands under trees or in the woods. It develops a widely ramified rhizome and,
therewith, outlasts winter well.
Due to its very tender, delicate, yellow bellflower, which is hanging down, in German, it also bears the name "Trauerglocke" (engl. mourning bell). However, the view of this plant doesn't sadden at all as it already blooms very early in spring and bears lots of blossoms, which delight the heart bothered from winter.

In Europe, the bellwort is only known as a rarity in the garden or in parks. Nevertheless, in North America, it has a tradition as a medicinal plant and is used by several indigenous North American tribes. Yet, you should know that bellwort is strongly poisonous and that you should treat it with caution.

The bag must be kept warm and moist (approx. +20°C) for the first 2-4 weeks and then placed in the refrigerator where it should remain at a temperature of +5°C for 5-6 weeks. Then remove the plastic bag and observe regularly at room temperature whether the seeds germinate. Then prick the seedlings into pots and plant them out after the last frosts in mid-May.
