The European Honeysuckle is a hardy climbing plant that grows wildly from the Mediterranean to the South of Scandinavia and likes to entangle other plants, both vertically and horizontally. Like hops, it grows clockwise and is ideal for greening up
walls and outbuildings or unsightly hedges and trees and can also be planted as a ground cover. It forms lianas of up to 20 meters long with a height growth up to 8-10 meters.

At nightfall, forests in which the honeysuckle has settled are filled by the enchanting smell of the fleshy flowers, even if the cause can't be discovered at first sight - because it grows and flowers high up on a tree. The sweet nectar of the flowers, which is hidden deep inside the flowers and which is also edible for humans, attracts mainly nocturnal moths for the purpose of pollination.

A cough syrup can be produced from the saponin-containing flowers, and the leaves have also been used for various purposes by herbalists, but the dosage is difficult since the active ingredients of the plant are slightly poisonous and can cause vomiting and diarrhea. The red berries are inedible.
