Details: Plant description & care
Sowing & cultivation
- Sowing period: Indoors mid-February/ at the end of March, resp. 8-10 weeks before the last frosts
- Ideal germination temperature: +25-28°C, a light and warm location is absolutely necessary
- Germination period: Up to 2 weeks. After germination, put the plants in a cool place at approx. +20°C again
- 2-3 weeks after sowing, prick the plants when the first pair of leaves has fully developed. Thereby, the roots should be pruned to stimulate the healthy growth of the roots.
- Plant outdoors from mid-May to the beginning of June after the last night frosts. Before, the plants should be tempered for some days. Don't forget to water the plants after transplanting.
- Peppers need well-loosened, permeable soils with high humus content. They don't need waterlogging but also never like to fully dry out.
- Pepper plants love warmth and prosper best in a greenhouse. That doesn't mean that it's impossible to let it grow outside. However, choose the warmest and most protected location in your garden to cultivate peppers or think of a protection fleece if needed.
- Peppers are heavy feeders. They need a sufficiently good fertilizer and, indeed, very much water
