The Patagonian purpletop vervain comes from the vicinity of the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires, as its Latin name suggests. With its bright violet, fragrant flowers on tall thin stems, it is a particularly striking meadow flower and a beautiful
cut flower. It is a good nectar plant for butterflies and moths, blooms all summer long and reseeds itself frequently.

Since it comes from South America, it is not perennial in the Central European climate. Moreover, although it is related to the medicinal plant verbena it seems to have no appreciable healthe benefits.
