March. The edible fruits can be harvested in June and July.
The cactus pears have various applications - one of them, the usage as a hairbrush, has also given the cactus its Latin "Epitheton pecten-aboriginum" which means "The brush of the natives". However, the sweet fruits can also be used for vinous fermentation and for the production of marmalade. The flour ground from the black seeds used to be used for baking tortillas.
Chawe is, furthermore, used ceremonially in the healing arts or the Tarahumara in Central America. The most effective ingredient in the preparation of the shamanic healing potion is the juice of the young cactus sprouts.
Seeds: Content, approx. 10 Pachhycereus Pecten-aboriginum seeds

Sowing & cultivation
The seeds are scattered onto moist cactus soil and pressed onto it gently. Cover them with glass (mini-greenhouse) so that the moisture remains. After approx. 2 weeks, germination begins. Germination: at 25-28°C. To prevent a fungal attack, a little bit of horsetail extract (0.4%) can be added to the irrigation water.
