Chives may be one of the most elementary plants in the herb garden. In nature, chive grows with other wild leek species on dry mountain meadows. Chives have a history of cultivation that dates back to the Middle Ages.

Chives taste best when reaped fresh. There is hardly anything more delicious than a fresh piece of bread with butter and fresh chives. And herb curd, herb butter and tasty dips become so much better when seasoned with chives. The blossoms of the plant are - just as the stems - edible and furthermore beautiful as garnish for salads or vegetable dishes.
Chives are also important actors in plant protection. Because their unique odour dispels many common vermins, chives are can be planted as protecting borders around strawberry or tomato beds among others. Roses, too profit from having chives nearby.
