Garlic chives are an ancient cultivated plant from China. The strap-shaped leaves with triangular bases are harvested in a similar way to chives and have a savoury-sweet garlic aroma. As a culinary herb it is only suitable when used uncooked but the
tender seed capsules are also delicious. In some gardens the vigorous white flowering plant is selected simply for its ornamental qualities.

Perennial kitchen herb with garlic aroma from China. Pre-cultivation from mid-February indoors or direct sowing outdoors from April. Seeds should only be scattered on the sowing soil and pressed lightly. Germination slightly delayed in 14-28 days. Likes sunny locations and should be kept weed-free especially at the beginning, as the stalks can easily be mistaken for grass.
