German garlic (Allium ssp. senescens montanum, Syn. Allium lusitanicum) is an old German cottage garden plant. This bulbous plant grows wild on mountain meadows (hence the name mountain garlic), but is also cultivated in the regional home garden. It
is mostly cultivated for the small bulbs. They have a sweet taste with peppery scent and a hint of garlic. The leaves can be used just like chives, and the plant is therefore also called broadleaf chives.
