It's an important food crop of many butterflies, amongst others of the elephant hawk moth. The blossoms of the great hairy willowherb are deep pink to crimson and can be admired from June to September. The propagation takes place through offshoots as well as through seeds.
The roots of the plant can be dried and processed into flour. The leaves are a wonderful addition to salad. Brewed as a tea, the leaves are said to be helpful against prostate afflictions.

Sowing & cultivation
Perennial shrub for sunny locations. Pre-cultivation from March or direct sowing in outdoors from mid-April. Light germination: Only sprinkle seed on the sowing soil and press on lightly. The young plants can be planted outdoors from mid-May.
