Kale is an uncomplicated winter vegetable that can be harvested from the beginning of frost until spring. It contains a lot of vitamin C. Kale is supposed to be closely related to wild cabbage and is therefore a very old crop that was grown before Christ in Greece already in the 3rd century.
Besides, the plant is very decorative and is often grown as an overseeding of potatoes or other early vegetables in intercropping. A particularly good partner are tomatoes, as both of them require lots of nutrients, and tomatoes protect the kale against typical cabbage insect pests.
Package with approx. 100 curly kale seeds
Growing instructions
Sow from mid-May to July directly in the garden. After the first true leaf appears, pinch out with a planting distance of 40 cm. Kale needs a lot of nutrients. Therefore, the patch should be prepared with compost or composted manure. It prefers a sunny or partially shady spot with moist, humus-rich and calcareous soil.Curly Kale is hardy and can be harvested from the first frosts until March. Prolonged frost improves the taste, because the sugar content increases. Harvest the leaves from the outside inwards.
