Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a native spice and medicinal plant of the Mediterranean. It is traditionally used to support gastrointestinal function and relieve nervous stress. It's an important part of aromatherapy.

The lemony-fresh taste of lemon balm is suitable for many dishes such as summer salads or as a refreshing herbal infusion. Sirop can be excellently made to make the fresh flavour usable all year round as lemonade or for flavouring cocktails or herb liqueurs.
Lemon balm belongs to the most important bee pasture plants.

Lemon balm is a hardy perennial. It prefers a warm, dry location. Start indoors beginning in March. After successful preculture, plant out the vigorous plants after the last freezing nights in May. Lemon balm is a light germinator: Only scatter the seeds onto the substrate and press them on lightly. Lemon balm basically has a bad germination rate and struggles a little bit with germination. Therefore, precautionary, it's better to sow more of it.
