Vitex agnus-castus, called monk's pepper or chasteberry, is an old medicinal plant from the mint family. Its story is closely connected with European monastery gardens, where it was cultivated by monks. As it supposedly inhibits sexual desire, they
expected a relief from the austere monastery life by consuming chasteberry. Today, preparations of the pungent-tasting fruits of the plant are used as a hormone-regulating agent for women.
