According to traditional Ethiopian preparation, the coffee seeds are roasted in a special iron pan, bruised and, subsequently, ground with a mortar. The coffee powder is then cooked with water and sugar in a crock and drunk out of small bowls. Traditionally, meanwhile, incense is burnt, which scent combines with the coffee flavour. Apart from Arabica, other coffee varieties like Robusto and Kona are also of commercial interest.

Sowing & cultivation
Perennial shrub for apartment and winter garden. Crack seedpod and let the coffee seeds prime in warm water for several hours (no longer than 1 day). To maintain the temperature, a thermosflask is suitable. Then, press them onto seeding compost, don't cover with soil, and bring them into muggy surroundings. Coffee seeds germinate best at 25-30(!) °C. Ideal location: Half shade. Protect from the midday sun. Lime-deficient water is convenient.
