The broad bean 'Hangdown' belongs to the medium-early varieties. They can be sown very early, as soon as the soil has dried in early spring.

This green-grained variety produces many long, hanging pods, each containing 4-5 tender green beans. They can be eaten fresh or deep-frozen.

Package with approx. 35 fava bean seeds

Growing instructions

Broad beans should be sown outdoors as soon as possible, starting at the end of February, as soon as the soil has thawed and dried. The beans may also be pre-soak for several hours in water before sowing. Sowing depth: 5-8 cm
.Sow in rows with about 30-40 cm distance and keep 8-10 cm of space between the individual plants. Requires moist soil. When the plants have reached a height of 15-20 cm, they should be kept free from weeds and earthed up. Once the pods have developed, break off stem tips for good growth.
The sooner broad beans are sown, the lower the risk of infestation with the black bean aphid. Intercropping with savory can further reduce the risk of an infestation.
