The Ethiopian eggplant, also known as bitter tomato or scarlet eggplant, is an African Vegetable with many great varieties. In Europe it is grown only sporadically in southern Italy. The plant is very resistant to drought and the fruits are used
like other aubergines and eggplants. This Ethiopian nightshade variety, N'Drowa Issia, comes from the Ivory Coast and produces yellow fruits that turn reddish later.

Preculture in seed sowing compost starting in March indoors. Solanum aethiopicum germinates at 20 °C in about 10 days. In May after the Ice Saints, harden off the 15 cm large plants and plant them out into the greenhouse or a warm place in the vegetable patch or flower bed. Well suited as a pot plant.
