St John's Wort is known to have a positive stimulating effect. It is widely used as a herbal treatment for light depressions and nervous unrest. The plant has, indeed, already been known in antiquity.
From the buds and blossoms, the so-called "Rotöl" can be gained. An oil that can be applied internally as well as externally and has proven itself with rheumatism, gout, tensions, lumbago, and injuries.
St John's Wort is a perennial, herbaceous plant that prefers sunny to half-shady and rather meagre, dry locations. The plan forms an approx. 50cm deep root and tends to have creeping rhizomes.
