Holy basil is a common sight in Indian temple gardens. The leaves are prepared as an infusion for treating ailments of the digestive tract and to protect the immune system against stress and to lower cholesterol levels. The flavor is rather sweet
for a basil plant and somewhat reminiscent of cloves. As a spice, Tulsi is also used in Thai cooking.
