The Welsh onion, which actually comes from Asia and is therefore also called Japanese bunching onion, is a hardy leek variety. This ancient cultured plant is quite similar to the more common spring onion. The strong stalks may be cut all year round.

You can sow welsh onions directly into the field starting in March: Cover the seeds with a layer of soil about 2cm thick. When sowing in rows, keep a distance of 20 cm between the individual onion plants. The bunching onion is a hardy perennial and can be harveted until winter. Loves loose garden soil.
