Halloween celebrations are based on an old Irish legend and it has therefore become the custom to carve spooky motives into pumpkins and to turn them into lanterns to keep ghosts and dark spirits from your house on 31st October each year.
For this seed kit we hand selected 3 pumpkin varieties ideal for carving Halloween lanterns:
The seeds of each variety are packaged in a separate sachet.
- Pumpkin 'Gele Centenaar' (Cucurbita maxima)
'Gele Centenaar' is an old orange-yellow Dutch variety, which produces large, slightly flat-rounded crops, which can reach up to 50cm in diameter. - 'Golden Hubbard' Squash (Cucurbita maxima)
'Golden Hubbard' is a typical, bright orange pumpkin variety from the US and its knotty/wrinkly skin texture offers just the right canvas, for a perfectly spooky looking pumpkin lantern. - Hokkaido Squash 'Red Kuri' (Cucurbita maxima)
'Red Kuri' is one of the most suitable pumpkin/ squash varieties to prepare a delicious pumpkin soup. Despite their firm skin, these pumpkins need not be peeled and have a lovely nutty aroma.
The seeds of each variety are packaged in a separate sachet.
