This Pincushion Cactus, also called Doñana, is a small, prickly cactus from Mexico with firm and sharp thorns. It doesn't grow larger than 5-6 cm and looks like a small pincushion. When it blooms, it often forms a central, large, pink blossom.


In Mexican folk medicine, it's used as a medicinal plant against rheumatism and bladder weakness. Out of the fruits, wine is produced.

The seeds are scattered on moist cactus soil and pressed onto it lightly. Cover them with glass (mini-greenhouse) so that the moisture remains. After approx. 2 weeks, germination starts. In 2-3 months, the seedlings already look like small cacti. Make sure that the temperature doesn't climb over 28°C during germination.
