Description

The term beefsteak tomato is commonly associated with tomato varieties that produce very large crops, with individual tomatoes sometimes weighing up to one kilo.

They lend themselves very well to cooking, pan frying, roasting, stuffing or prepared au gratin. They often stand out for their aromatic flavour and juiciness and are of course also delicious uncooked, as a topping on a slice of bread or in salads.
Being true eye catchers, beefsteak tomatoes stand out let alone due to their size and often unusual optical appearance.

This seed kit contains 6 wonderful, flavoursome, old heirloom beefsteak tomato varieties, which have been successfully cultivated for centuries:
  • Red beefsteak tomato 'Marmande' (Solanum lycopersicum)
An old French tomato variety, which starts producing plenty juicy tomatoes very early on in the season.
  • Red ox heart tomato 'Cuor di bue' (Solanum lycopersicum)
These tomatoes are often commonly referred to as 'Oxheart' or 'Cœur de bœuf' tomatoes, due to their shape that does carry some resemblance with the appearance of an ox heart.
  • Yellow 'Pineapple' beefsteak tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)
A beautiful old tomato variety from the United States. The delicate flesh of these beefsteak tomatoes is marbled in a pattern of yellow and orange, resembling the appearance of a pineapple when cut open and tastes so delicious it is truly melting in your mouth.
  • Pink beefsteak tomato 'Brandywine' (Solanum lycopersicum)
This rather pink coloured old Amish tomato variety is said to be an institution amongst the tomato varieties favoured for burgers.
  • Striped beefsteak tomato 'Striped Stuffer' (Solanum lycopersicum)
Large tomatoes resembling bell peppers in their shape and ribbed appearance. They are beautifully striped in orange and yellow flames and as these tomatoes are hollow inside, they are perfect for stuffing.
  • Orange beefsteak tomato 'Persimmon' (Solanum lycopersicum)
An old Russian beefsteak tomato variety with large, oblong, crops tasting mild and sweet.
Each seed kit contains sachets with a minimum of 10 tomato seeds per variety
