Description

Now found growing wild in many costal regions of Europe, alexanders or horse parsley was commonly cultivated in antiquity and the middle ages for its celery-like root and pepper-like seeds. The young shoots and leaves can also be eaten.

Hardy perennial. Best sown directly outside in autumn, as transplanting is not well tolerated by the young shoots. Prefers a moist, semi-shady locations. Calcareous soils are unsuitable.
