Description

The white flesh of this very robust Indian pumpkin is used for making jams and other sweets, i.e. for the famous French "angel's hair marmalade, for which the chopped gourd pulp is cooked in the same amount of sugar or honey and lemon juice until
the fine fibers (angel's hair) come loose from the pulp. Very young fruit may also be used like cucumbers. The fig leaf gourd has white or black seeds, depending on the variety, and is similar in taste to coconut. Other English names for the plant are chilacayote, fig leaved gourd, Siam pumpkin, malabar gourd, Thai marrow, shark fin melon, chiverre, or pie melon.

Growing instructions
Annual plant. Prefers a warm sunny position. Sow in spring indoors. Plant out after the last expected frost and give the plants some protection and (optional) a climbing frame.
