Description

Prior to the introduction of rhubarb, which came from Asia, sorrel was often grown in Europe. Its stems were actually used like rhubarb. Peeled you can eat them raw, make stewed fruit compote out of them or use them as a cake topping.

The garden sorrel is a very uncomplicated and unpretentious perennial plant whose leaves can be eaten fresh as a salad or blanched like spinach. Its flavour is distinctly sour, as its Latin name ('acetosa') implies.

Package with approx. 600 garden sorrel seeds

Growing instructions

Sow in rows or clusters from March to June or August. The garden sorrel needs light to germinate, so cover only lightly with soil. Planting distance 25 x 30 cm.
Plant in sandy or loamy top soil. It is important that the soil does not dry out. Pluck leaves often and cut off the flowering shoots in time.
