Description

Guernsey pigweed is an extremely ancient heirloom spinach plant, cultivated all around Europe in the Middle Ages. Later its use declined. The undemanding purple amaranth plant somewhat resembles the garden orache and provides a savory spinach. Fresh
leaves can be harvested throughout the summer and keep regrowing.

More recently, they are also popularly used in green smoothies. The seed of the plant, which is also known as vegetable amaranth may be used like millet.
