Ayurvedic Medicinal Herbs - Seed kit

The name 'Ayurveda' refers to a 5000 year-old traditional Indian healing practice, which is still in use, particularly in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka today. It is based on the knowledgeable use of medicinal plants, some of which are also commonly used to improve people’s well-being as a result of the famous ‘Ayurvedic diet’. In Europe the interest in Ayurveda is increasing noticeably and people are keen to learn more about the medicinal herbs at its core.

For this seed kit we hand selected 3 typical Ayurvedic medicinal herbs from India, which grow well in Central European climates:

• Winter cherry/ ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)
Ashwagandha is one of the most important Ayurvedic medicinal herbs. Its root extract is said to have rejuvenating properties, it also acts as an aphrodisiac and a mild sleeping drug.
• Holy basil/ tulsi/ thulasi (Ocimum sanctum/ Ocimum tenuiflorum)
The leaves of the tulsi plant are used to prepare a medicinal tea, which helps to boost the immune system and supports the digestive system. It has a warming effect from the inside and helps to release stress and to regulate high levels of cholesterol.
• Sweet flag/ calamus (Acorus calamus)
This wetland monocot is a very old and famous medicinal plant, which is not only widely used for Ayurvedic treatments but was also known by native American tribes in north America.
