Description
This traditional Italian broccoli variety produces large heads from August onwards, followed by numerous side shoots that can be harvested well into late autumn. The florets are tender and have a delicate flavour. Historical records show that broccoli and cauliflower were already cultivated by the Romans in ancient times.
Tips for winter growing:
Broccoli is hardy down to approx. -6°C. In fact, the buds tolerate cold temperatures slightly better than the rest of the plant. In Central Europe, harvesting can therefore usually continue safely into December. Covering the plants with horticultural fleece or transferring them to a cold frame naturally allows the harvest period to be extended.
For a winter harvest, sow from early to mid-July so that the young plants have sufficient time to establish before the first frosts.

Sowing and care
Broccoli can be sown directly outdoors from April or started indoors. Seedlings raised indoors can be transplanted into the garden from late May onwards. Allow approximately 50 cm spacing between the broccoli plants. Harvest the heads before the florets begin to open. Broccoli is suitable for winter growing.
