Sowing between September and December only makes sense for a few types of vegetables, but a few specialists do come into question: robust lettuce varieties that can either be harvested during the winter or that can survive the winter with a little cover and then provide vitamin-rich fresh greens very early in the year. The latter include the purple sprouting cabbage and the winter sugar snap pea. Both should be sown in October so that you have vegetables ready for harvesting in spring.
