The theme of this advent calendar is: A Sea of Wildflowers.
A lovely surprise awaits for every day in Advent – each day there’s a new packet of flower seeds to discover. These 24 varieties offer a delightful mix of mainly native wildflowers plus some annual summer flowers, climbers and perennials. There’s something here for everyone, whether they’re a new gardener keen to find out more, a seasoned gardening expert, a flower fanatic or a bee lover.
Many of these flower varieties have also long been known for their healing powers – so there’s plenty in here that can be harvested and used to aid well-being, too. All the seeds are open-pollinated and certified organic. Growing them in your garden will provide a rich, diverse food source for many beneficial insects including wild bees, bumblebees and butterflies.
The seed obtained from growing these plants can be saved and used for sowing in the following year, too.
Most of these varieties can be grown in large pots – although they will do best when grown in open ground.
The Advent Calendar comprises 24 colour-printed, numbered paper packets along with mini wooden pegs and a string for hanging them on. Each packet has a surprise seed sachet hidden inside. The kit also contains a detailed, beautifully illustrated planting guide along with plant-by-plant profiles of our favourite plants from the Magic Garden Seeds assortment.
As a special extra there’s also a large poster printed with the gorgeous hand-drawn illustration of the calendar theme. On the reverse you’ll find a comprehensive seed-sowing calendar in table form so you can tell at a glance when the different varieties need to be sown. A folding card is included for your personal greeting, along with our suggestions for creative ways to display the Advent seed packs.
We hope you enjoy discovering, growing, sharing and harvesting some of our favourite plants.
Grow your own magic!
These mini-surprises will continue to delight after Christmas, too – from around February the first seeds can be sown indoors, and then there’s all the pleasure of waiting and watching, seeing those first green shoots, watering, pricking out, tending, and then harvesting, savouring and enjoying.
The calendar is locally made in Regensburg, in Bavaria, Germany. It is virtually plastic-free and all materials can be recycled. All the contents are vegan with the exception of the beeswax used on the string for hanging up the packets. This string is designed to be re-used after Advent – it’s perfect for using as a wick in candle-making.
