Description
Over 100 small yellow fruits on a single truss
The tomato 'Dattelwein' is an old German open pollinated cocktail tomato that has been preserved and distributed by seed saving initiatives and conservation organisations such as ARCHE NOAH. Its exact breeder is not documented, but it is regarded as a classic Central European heritage variety with a long tradition in home gardens.
This variety is characterised by its pronounced multiflora habit: strongly branched flower trusses carry enormous quantities of fruit - sometimes more than 100 small tomatoes per truss. The fruits are 3 to 4 cm in size, pear to drop shaped and shine in yellow to yellow orange tones. The flesh is mildly sweet, rather low in acidity and ideal for snacking straight from the plant.
'Dattelwein' grows as a cordon tomato and reaches 1.8 to 2 metres in height. The variety is considered extremely productive and relatively crack resistant, making it suitable for outdoor cultivation, tomato houses or larger containers. Due to the heavy fruit load, the trusses should be well supported.
