Description
This interesting fig cactus is completely hardy down to -20°C here if it's protected from wetness! You can plant it on the house wall, for example, where it's relatively dry and sheltered from the rain. Not only the cactus pears but also the young 'ears' (Nopalitos) are edible as a delicious vegetable and can be grilled or prepared like beans.

Sowing and care
Perennial plant. Loves lots of sun and dry locations, maybe on house walls with some rain protection. The plants need a distance of approx. 30cm. Sowing: Preculture. Germinates at approx. 23°C. Gently press the seeds onto the soil and keep them moist. Germinates after 2-6 weeks. Opuntia germinates best after a longer storage period. Avoid waterlogging in the first weeks. Plant out strong plantlets.

Geduld zahlt sich aus
Braucht lange zum Keimen und es keinen bei weitem nicht alle Samen. Etwa 1/4 ist aufgegangen und hat sich mittlerweile zu kleinen Pflänzchen entwickelt.
