Description
Like witloof, radicchio and catalogna, leaf chicory belongs to the chicory salads that all trace back to common chicory.
It's an ideal, last salad for the autumn and winter harvest. Leaf chicory is also a stunner in the bed as it forms firm, oval, and mostly slightly pointy heads. These can reach a height of up to 45cm and weigh around 2kg.
This salad variety appears especially picturesque because of its wavy, slightly curled leaves.

Sowing and care
The annual leaf chicory is a great winter vegetable. As a long-day plant, it should only be sown from mid-June as it tends to sprout otherwise. Dark germinator, sowing depth: 0.5-1cm, ideal germination temperature: +20-25°C. Germinates uncomplicated in 7-14 days. Planting distance: 30-40cm.
Loves sunny to half-shady locations with permeable, humous soil. 8-12 weeks after the sowing, the firm heads can be harvested. Suitable as a storable vegetable.
