Description
Large-fruited, bicolour beef tomato with a fruity, sweet flavour and striking appearance.
The beef tomato 'Ananas' is one of those heirloom varieties that have been cherished for decades for their exceptional beauty and fruity aroma. Originally popular in the USA, this variety has gained international popularity among tomato enthusiasts. It is known for its striking yellow-orange flesh, often veined with red, which resembles a ripe pineapple when sliced. This unique marbling explains not only its name but also its appeal as one of the most decorative tomatoes in the garden and on the plate.
With very low acidity, a mild, sweet flavour and few seeds, the 'Ananas' tomato is a favourite among those who enjoy aromatic, fruity tomatoes. The fruits can easily exceed 500 g in weight and are ideal for colourful tomato salads, basil carpaccio, stuffed tomatoes or fresh summer dishes. Thanks to their juiciness, they are also excellent for sauces and creamy tomato purées. Due to their size and soft flesh, 'Ananas' is primarily a garden tomato and is rarely available commercially. Its full flavour is best enjoyed freshly harvested.
The plants grow vigorously, develop strong stems, and produce impressively large fruits with proper care. For best results, a sheltered spot in a greenhouse or tomato house is recommended, as heavy beef tomatoes are more sensitive to rain and temperature fluctuations. With sturdy support from stakes, spirals or ties, the plant reliably produces many large fruits throughout the season.

Sowing and care
Sowing and care
Sowing begins indoors from March at temperatures between 22 and 28 °C. Once the young plants are strong enough, they can be transplanted from mid-May into a greenhouse, tomato house or outdoors with rain protection, following a hardening-off period. As a heavy feeder, the 'Ananas' variety requires a sunny, warm location with deep, humus-rich soil and regular feeding. The plants should be supported with stakes or ties and regularly side-shooted to promote the growth of large, healthy fruits. A planting distance of 50 to 100 cm allows for good air circulation and vigorous development. Under optimal conditions, the 'Ananas' beef tomato delivers impressively large and aromatic fruits throughout the summer.
